Green means go

Sylvia thought leadership

The green transition is entering its high-growth phase

Green investments provide major opportunities in emerging markets, while making a positive impact on the environment. They power green financial markets, scale renewable energy and advance sustainable agriculture.

Only businesses built on strong foundations will benefit. We finance these companies, upporting their efforts to transition to sustainable business models.

Our 2024 results prove once again that commercial viability and long-term impact go hand in hand.

Our investors understand this opportunity

Across all funds, private institutional capital rose by 24% to €2.6 billion. This helped our Green for Growth Fund pass the €1bn mark and become one of the largest funds of its kind.

Our institutional investors value risk-mitigated returns, lasting impact and insights into the future drivers of emerging market growth.

We provide this across a range of geographies, sectors and assets.

The opportunity is gaining momentum

We increased the scale and scope of our green financing in 2024, notably via an increase in direct investment. Progress was also made across our green impact contributions, from lowering carbon emissions and scaling renewable energy capacity to increasing financing to sustainable farmland.

Notably, our LAGreen Fund is leading the development of Latin America’s emerging thematic bond market. During the year, we were the catalyst for inaugural green bond issuances in Peru and Guatemala.

Meanwhile, the Green for Growth Fund continued to scale renewable energy across Southeast Europe. In 2024, we financed a major renewable-energy infrastructure project in North Macedonia, driving the country’s clean-energy transition.

And our eco.business Fund increased its support for agri-businesses in biodiversity-rich areas of Latin America and Africa. We worked with investees to implement sustainable

Resilient investors

We are moving at pace

The businesses we finance are set to drive sustainable growth and the green transition in 2025 and beyond.

We will deliver deeper impact, greater diversification and more valuable emerging market insights for our institutional investors. And we will continue to produce financial additionality for first-loss investors at a time of tightening budgets.
