Finance in Motion at COP30: Mobilizing private capital for climate action
Frankfurt, 10 November 2025 – Today marks the start of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil. In addition to setting new climate targets, one of the main topics is how to finance them. Given the tight budgets even in industrialized countries, it is more important than ever to leverage private capital to limit climate damage. Investments in renewable energies, for example, not only ensure a reliable electricity supply and generate local returns, but also help to reduce global warming. Finance in Motion, one of the largest impact investors worldwide, is actively engaged in this discussion at COP30 through Chief Investment Officer, Hector Gomez Ang.
At the 30th UN Climate Change Conference, which runs from 10 to 21 November, countries are required to renew their climate targets under the Paris Agreement. These voluntary commitments, first negotiated in 2015, must be updated every five years. Financing these commitments remains a central challenge. Even before the conference began, host President Lula da Silva called on industrialized countries to provide sufficient financial resources to support developing countries, which are most affected by climate change. However, public budgets are under pressure globally, making it increasingly urgent to attract private capital to help reduce climate-damaging emissions.
At Sustainable Business COP30 (SBCOP30), a global business initiative designed to promote sustainable entrepreneurship and concrete climate protection projects, Finance in Motion is working with policymakers and development finance institutions to develop the framework conditions necessary for scalable and climate-friendly investments in Brazil. SBCOP30 complements the official UN negotiations by representing the business community and its contributions to achieving climate goals.
Finance in Motion continues to advocate for solutions that combine financial returns with measurable environmental and social impact, reinforcing its commitment to mobilizing private investment for climate action.
