Finance in Motion explores the stories behind impact numbers in its 2022 Impact Report

The report demonstrates how the impact asset manager is guided by meaningful impact indicators while offering innovative solutions to investors and investees.

Frankfurt, July 27, 2023 – Finance in Motion, a leading impact asset manager, published its annual Impact Report. Focused on the theme “Behind the Numbers,” the 2022 edition not only points to the impact achieved throughout a very challenging year in the emerging markets covered by the funds Finance in Motion advises and/or manages, but also highlights the mechanisms and methodologies developed to deliver, measure and report on positive impact for people and planet. Behind each number is a big story – and Finance in Motion’s impact results tell the story of creating solutions for investors and investees alike since the asset manager’s inception in 2009. The nine funds Finance in Motion advises and/or manages have, as at 31 December 2022, invested a total of EUR 7.1 billion in green and social assets since their inception. By the end of 2022, these investments have contributed to avoiding more than 1.1 million tons of CO2 emissions annually, maintaining 1.1 million hectares under sustainable management, enabling 1.6 million loans to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and supporting 2.4 million indirect jobs in MSMEs.

Recognizing that financing is crucial but not in itself wholly sufficient for markets and individuals to thrive, in 2022 alone, Finance in Motion managed technical assistance facilities also delivered 523 technical assistance projects with a combined value of EUR 43.8 million, benefitting more than 86,000 people – staff from financial institutions, regulators, and business support organizations among others.

Finance in Motion Managing Director Sylvia Wisniwski said: “Transparent impact measurement and reporting are essential to our work. Numbers alone, however, do not always capture the full impact of our ambitions. In this year’s impact report, we demonstrate how Finance in Motion sets and is guided by meaningful indicators, how we create solutions for investors and investees alike, and how we deliver impact in terms of climate, biodiversity, and economic development. We are deeply grateful to our investors and partners who allow us to deliver these impact results - creating positive climate, biodiversity, and economic development outcomes.”
